Cambridge Junction, 8 Aug 2025

Ace Records 50th Anniversary Concert Series presents

The Fatback Band, formed in New York City in 1970 by drummer Bill Curtis, are a renowned American funk and disco band.

Known for their energetic “street funk” style, they gained popularity in the 1970s and 1980s with hits like ‘(Do The) Spanish Hustle’, ‘Wicki Wacky’, ‘Yum, Yum (Give Me Some)’, ‘(Are You Ready) Do the Bus Stop’ and ‘Backstrokin’.

Their 1979 single ‘King Tim III (Personality Jock)’ was the first commercially released hip-hop single, which came out one week before the Sugarhill Gang’s ‘Rapper’s Delight’.

The Fatback Band’s signature song ‘I Found Lovin” was originally released in 1983 and charted a second time in 1986 along with a cover by UK DJ Steve Walsh.
