Take It To The Bridge

Cambridge Junction, 13 Mar 2026

Cambridge University popular music performance competition

Four top student acts, Ava, Den, Lost Projects and Pulsar, selected from auditions, compete in the live final of the University of Cambridge’s popular performance competition.

They will be judged by high-profile music industry figures including Sonita Alleyne OBE (Chair, Centre for Music Performance), Preye Crooks (Sony Music) and Matt Fincham (BBC Radio 1). The judges’ decision will be informed by an audience vote.

A bit more about the acts…

AVA is an emerging singer-songwriter accompanied by her incredible band. Inspired by artists such as Carole King, Kate Bush and Alanis Morrissette, her music is an eclectic blend of pop, rock, folk and jazz. Her lyrics place razor sharp observation and poetry at the forefront of her songwriting. Open and honest, she wants to share her vulnerability with listeners and take you on an emotional journey that only music can make you feel.

DEN is four-piece art-rock band formed in Cambridge. Taking inspiration from underground scenes in the UK and abroad, they marry experimental songwriting with danceable hooks and intentioned lyricism. In their 18 months together, they have taken to local venues like the Portland Arms, Blue Moon and Hank’s to support a culture of original guitar music and DIY events.
LOST PROJECTS was part of the Centre for Music Performance’s Advanced Popular Performance Scheme in 2024-25. Its musical style is influenced by a range of genres including pop, jazz rap and hip hop.

PULSAR are an accomplished modern instrumental hip hop/jazz/electronic fusion act in the spirit of the likes of BADBADNOTGOOD, the Robert Glasper Experiment, Bill Laurance and Butcher Brown. With varied arrangements of material from a range of artists including MF DOOM, Radiohead, Fourtet, Madlib, Yussef Dayes and Kaytranada, Pulsar can just as easily cruise through genre-bending modern jazz as they can break out into some breakbeat or DnB. Pulsar formed recently but have already appeared at the Cambridge Jazz Festival supporting both Jack Banjo’s (Olivia Dean, Opus Kink) solo project Snackwall, and the hotly tipped Knats, and also at the Cambridge Guildhall as part of Cambridge’s iconic Court Sessions.
