Ely Sinfonia - Beethoven & Walton
Heroism, Harmony and Triumph
Beethoven's gripping Egmont Overture sets the stage for Ely Sinfonia's Spring concert, with dramatic force, defiance and noble spirit. Composed for Goethe's tragedy Egmont, this work is a musical call to arms - a celebration of courage in the face of tyranny as it channels the fight for freedom.
Beethoven's Triple Concerto is a rare and radiant gem in the composer's catalogue, bringing together piano, violin and cello in a beaming trio of voices. Full of lyricism, lively interplay and elegant charm, it's a joyful showcase of musical unity.
Completing the night is William Walton's Symphony no. 1, a landmark in British classical music. From brooding tension to explosive climaxes, this symphony delivers drama throughout, surging through dramatic highs and culminating in a triumphant, blazing finale.
Tickets: £25, £20, £10 (Under 18s: £5 in £20 & £10 seats).
