Cambridge University lunchtime concert

As part of the Centre of Music Performance’s Global Sounds Festival, a selection of lively gamelan music and dance from Central Java featuring guest dancer Andrea Rutkowski.

The Cambridge Gamelan Society is an ensemble dedicated to performing traditional and contemporary Javanese gamelan music.

We meet on Thursday evenings in the Cudworth Room, Faculty of Music, West Road.

No previous musical experience is required, with a dedicated beginners group meeting at the beginning of the session to help develop your skills.. To join and for more information please contact Rob Campion (rc850).

In 2025-26 the group is looking forward to performing in the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, and a concert in West Road Concert Hall.

2024-25 highlights included a workshop for a local Cambridge secondary school, a Gamelan family afternoon at Pembroke Auditorium, followed by an evening performance. In 2023-24, the group performed a shadow puppet theatre performance with a master gamelan musician from East Java.

The Cambridge University Lunchtime Concert series offers a vibrant stage for students and local performers. Open to the public every Tuesday during the University of Cambridge term, these complimentary concerts are well attended. CULCs are curated by a student committee and supported by the Centre for Music Performance.
